For example for a value of "2.5.6.qualifier" the following values transform a version into a range... 0 => "[2.5.6.qualifier,2.5.6.qualifier]" exact only 1 => "[2.5.6.qualifier,2.5.7)" exact only but allowing beta v ga releases etc 2 => "[2.5.6.qualifier,2.6)" patch releases but not 2.6.x or later 3 => "[2.5.6.qualifier,3)" patch and minor releases but not 3.x or later 4 => "2.5.6.qualifier" or "[2.5.6.qualifier,)" the current OSGi default which just means anything at all >= 2.5.6
